Feb. 1896

Meeting to Incorporate Cemetery at home of T.O. Jones

Mar. 9, 1896

Maplewood Cemetery Association Incorporated. Constitution (bi-laws) created and elections held. Payment made to Cora Jones for unused lots of existing Cemetery. ($625)

1896

Single grave price for someone over 10 years old was set at $6.00, and under 10 was set at $3.00.

1898

Well was discussed and dug. (hand-pump in Section D)

1900

First shed was built for tools and supplies. ($50.00)

1907/1916

Grading and staking of lots in Sections C & D (15’ x 18’)

1924

Problem of horses, at large, in the cemetery

1936

Section B Lot #68 (remainder of Herbert Dikeman plot) was Dedicated to Ely Fagan American Legion Post. Flag pole was donated by Frank Lamberton and installed.

1948/51

Problem of Pigs loose, in cemetery

1962

New Rules & Regulations: All foundations installed under approval and supervision of the superintendent. No trees or shrubs are to be planted in the cemetery by lot owners.

1962

Maplewood Cemetery sign installed.

1966

Vandalism in cemetery, Oct. 31st. 146 grave stones were overturned.

Repair Volunteers: Ely Fagan Legion, Henrietta Fire Co. Boy Scouts, Knights of

Columbus, and Guardian Angels Church and Monument Companies.

Area was cleaned and monuments were repaired and reset.

1968

Front Fence Removed, beyond repair.

1976

Number of Board Directors increased to 15 from the original 6.

1978

Ray Feasel has the new Section (F), filled, leveled and seeded.

1981

Began using the new Section F. Board voted - to keep the monuments, in the tradition of the rest of the Cemetery.

1983

Installation of the New Driveway and extensions, to the east, around Section F.

1984

New Shed Built (10 x 10 concrete block shed)

1990

Norway Maple trees approved for new east drive.

1991

Memorial Garden Dedicated. (Total cost = $3,138.00)

1996

100th Anniversary of Maplewood Cemetery Association

1997

1 acre purchased from Oliver Stymus for $13, 559.95 (including closing and legal fees), 4 acres donated to the Cemetery by Oliver Stymus.

1998

New well dug for water near shed. Electricity services run to shed for well pump.

1998

Cemetery records ‘computerized’

 

 

2006

Cemetery Master Plan started. DEC wetlands review and permit process starts

2006

MaplewoodCemetery.org website is created.

 

 

2008

Cemetery starts first phone system for multiple access.

2008

Cemetery Master Plan finalized and approved. (Grever & Ward)

2008

DEC, Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA, Monroe County DOT, Town of Henrietta permits approved.

2008

Cemetery Expansion Projects start! Includes the new north, east and south areas.

2008

All new sections (north, south and east) are cleared of brush and trees

2008

Drainage systems are installed along Middle Road and through the east and south sections

2008

Soil was brought in for fill: # Truck loads: North~700, South~500, East~750

2008

New north section road created, east (back) road expanded

2009

Additional soil fill required for east section. Over 300 truckloads were brought in and graded.

2009

Newly expanded east road is paved

2010

A new and larger maintenance shed (24’ x 28’ pole barn) is installed, over old 1984 block shed.

2010

New north section trees and shrubs planted. Includes 16 trees and many shrubs.

2010

Donate $$ for Trees program initiated for north section

2010

New John Deere mower and Gator are purchased

2011

Cemetery monument photo gallery added to the Maplewood Cemetery website

2012

North section road paved and drainage improvements are installed along road.

2012

South road is widened and paved

2012

Entrance signs are added to each of the 4 roads labeled Entrance #1 (north) to #4 (south)

2013

BSA Troop 750, Brian Matte, Eagle Project creates a new East Hill Community Garden.

2013

New North Area dedicated as Sections J & K with 1st Cremation-only grave area.
